Paula was a participant in a weight loss class in which we do EFT and group hypnotherapy. We also learn a great deal about the power of our minds. Paula had a history of yo-yo dieting and was tired of that cycle of failure. Within the first few sessions of the class, she really ‘got it’, really understood the fact that she was ‘hypnotizing herself’ all the time with her self-talk. She began addressing herself in the mirror every morning, “You are beautiful! You’re doing great. You’re thinner every day.”
Week after week, she looked much happier and emotionally lighter. She let us know that her relationship with food was changing, that she was less and less obsessed with food, more and more eating a healthy diet. One week Paula reported that she had tried on some old jeans, previously too small, and found that they fit! Even after classes ended, she continued to experience positive effects and, at last count, had lost 28 lbs.
In her words,
I used to always say, ‘Monday I’m going on a diet,’ because then I could eat — you always eat more before you start! That’s why I’ve kept the weight off this time. Now I know I can eat something anytime I want to… so I don’t eat it! Just forgetting about dieting is the key.
For example, on Easter, I used to eat so much candy. This year, I threw stuff away! I even bought a bag of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups just for me – my favorite – and it was still sitting there two months later. I just took it out last night because a friend wanted some chocolate. I had 2 pieces and that was it. My whole relationship with food has changed so much.
Also, I’m definitely more comfortable with being in my body. I actually feel more comfortable with myself now than I ever did in my life… even when I weighed a lot less. That’s huge.
